Carnival Scene at Igbomotoru as Hon. Commissioner inspects newly completed Secondary School Project.

Education is the key to development and progress in any society. 


It is therefore heartening to see the commitment of the Sen. Douye Diri  led administration in Bayelsa State to extend educational opportunities to the hinterlands. The recent working visit of the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Dr  Emelah Gentle , to inspect the newly completed Secondary School Project in Igbomotoru, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, is a testament to this commitment.


The atmosphere at Igbomotoru was that of a carnival as the community welcomed the Honourable Commissioner and his team. The project, a 12 Classroom Block (Storey Building) with Furniture, Principals Quarters, Staff Quarters, fencing and landscaping, was completed by the Contractor Hefdas Constructions within a short period of time despite the challenging terrain. The Honourable Commissioner commended the contractor for his dedication and service to the state.

The development of the riverine communities has been a priority for the Sen. Douye Diri led administration, and this project is another milestone in that direction. The Honourable Commissioner, in his address, highlighted the importance of educational development in these communities. He stated, "Education is the only pathway to sustainable development, and it is our responsibility to ensure that our riverine communities have access to quality education."


During the inspection, the Honourable Commissioner also visited the ongoing construction of various facilities Fonibiri community, including 12 classroom blocks, accommodation for teachers and staff,10 units of one bedroom apartment Quarters, twin two bedrooms apartment  for principal and vice principal quarters, five units of self-contain corpers lodge, administrative and science blocks, library block, workshop block, auditorium block, male hostel, female hotels and a dining hall. The project also includes a four-bedroom flat for general staff, landscaping, and interlocking of the school premises.


This comprehensive development plan is a clear indication of the government's determination to provide a conducive learning environment for the students.


The visit was also an opportunity for the Honourable Commissioner to engage with community leaders and encourage them to guide their children towards this new educational facility. He urged them to take advantage of the quality education being offered in their locality and ensure their children's future is bright.


The inspection team, led by the Honourable Commissioner was accompanied by Engr. Ebiye Tarabina, Chairman Directorate for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, and Engr. Goodluck Ofodah, Director Project Ministry of Education, among others.


The team expressed satisfaction with the progress of the project and commended the contractor for his efficient and timely execution.

This project is a significant step towards bridging the educational gap between the urban and rural areas in Bayelsa State. It will not only provide access to quality education for the students of Igbomotoru but also contribute to the overall development of the community. 


The Sen. Douye Diri led administration's commitment to improving education in the state is commendable, and this project is a clear indication of the government's efforts.


The completion of the Secondary School Project further reinforces the government's commitment to providing quality education to every student in Bayelsa State, irrespective of their location. With such initiatives, Bayelsa is set to become a hub of excellence in education, and the future of its youth will undoubtedly be bright.
