Currently serving as the Chairman of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), he continues to play a pivotal role in championing the interests of the Niger Delta region and Nigeria at large.

Ambassador Igali’s intellectual prowess is evident in his robust academic background. He holds a Ph.D. in Political and International Studies from the prestigious University of Venezuela, a Master’s degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, and a Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Port Harcourt. His academic journey reflects his deep passion for governance, international relations, and diplomacy.

A Distinguished Career in Diplomacy and Public Service

Dr. Igali’s contributions to Nigerian diplomacy are monumental. As a career diplomat, he distinguished himself as an expert in economic diplomacy, serving as the Secretary to ten (10) Nigerian Economic Missions abroad between 1986 and 1991. His expertise in international negotiations and economic relations contributed significantly to Nigeria’s global engagement and trade partnerships.

One of the highlights of his diplomatic career was his tenure as Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Scandinavian countries—Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Norway. In this role, he strengthened bilateral relations between Nigeria and these nations, fostering economic and political cooperation.

Beyond diplomacy, Dr. Igali also made substantial contributions to Nigeria’s domestic governance. He was appointed the Special Assistant (Special Duties) in the Nigerian Presidential Villa (2005–2006) and later served as Honorary Adviser and Peace Envoy to the President on Niger Delta Affairs (2006–2007). His role in conflict resolution in the Niger Delta was instrumental in advancing peace efforts in the region.

Key Role in the Bakassi Peninsula Peace Process

One of Ambassador Igali’s most significant contributions to global peace and diplomacy was his involvement in the Bakassi Peninsula peace process. Following the 2002 International Court of Justice (ICJ) judgment, which ruled in favor of Cameroon in the territorial dispute with Nigeria, tensions between both nations escalated. Dr. Igali played a crucial role in brokering peace and ensuring a smooth transition, demonstrating his exceptional skill in diplomacy and conflict resolution.

A Leader in Public Administration and Policy Implementation

Ambassador Igali’s impact extended to public administration, where he served as Federal Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Water Resources.
