GOV.DIRI’S SSA ON TOURISM CONDEMNS ILLEGAL POACHING OF CHIMPANZEES IN EDUMENUM NATIONAL PARK : ... Calls for Concerted Efforts to Protect Wildlife in Bayelsa. Following increased hunting and poaching of chimpanzees in forest reserve in the state, Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Bayelsa State Governor on Tourism, Mr. Piriye Kiyaramo has called for concerted efforts to protect endangered species in the Edumenum National Park, covering 86.76 km2, home to chimpanzees and Apoi National Park, covering 64.77 km2, where the critically endangered Niger Delta Red Colombus is found, among several species.  While expressing his displeasure in an interview with newsmen in Yenagoa, Wednesday over recent killing of chimpanzees in Edumenum National Park in the Nembe axis by locals, Mr. Kiyaramo, said all great apes, including chimpanzees are either endangered or critically endangered.  The governor's aide who lamented that bushmeat has always been a primary food source in Central and West Africa

CELEBRATE OIL &GAS DISCOVERY DAYS IN YOUR COMMUNITIES- GOV, DIRI’S SSA ON TOURISM . The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Bayelsa State Governor on Tourism, Mr. Piriye Kiyaramo has enjoined oil producing communities in the Niger Delta region to weave local festivals around the days crude oil was discovered in their areas, adding that oil heritage should form part of their annual festivals in the region to promote energy tourism and conservation education.  Mr. Kiyaramo who made the call at the seventh edition of the annual "National Oil & Gas Discovery Day Festival held at the site of Oloibiri Oil Well 1, where crude oil was first discovered in commercial quantity on Sunday 15 January 1956 by Shell Darcy, in Otuabagi Community in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, noted that crude oil sites are now being promoted all over the world as special interest tourism niche destinations to attract visitors and adventure tourists alike to such places. The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Bayelsa State Governor on Tourism, Mr. Piriye Kiyaramo has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to create    tourist a police unit, adding that the special squad will should be able to respond to the needs and concerns of visitors and tourists alike. Mr. Kiyaramo said the safety and security of tourists should be given due attention any destination that is striving to increase its popularity among visitors, informing that more and more countries have continued to introduce tourist police units to help and protect their tourists. JOIN PROTEST, RISK SUSPENSION: STRACOM Warms Amnesty Delegates With BVN RELATED CASES   ... Says About 700 to 750 Ex-agitators Cleared, Others Awaiting Clearance.  The Strategic Communication Committee (STRACOM) of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), has advised delegates with BVN related cases to remain calm as the adhoc verification committee of PAP has rectified about 700 to 750 cases, awaiting approval for payment, warning that any affected ex-agitator who joins any protest in respect of the BVN matter will be suspended from the programme.  This stern warning was handed down by the Director of Mobilisation of STRACOM, Comrade Tonye Bobo, in a chat with journalists on Saturday in Yenagoa, adding that the Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Maj. Gen. Barry Tariye Ndiomu (rtd) is doing everything possible to rectify all BVN related cases.
